Qatar – Reclaimed Water Reuse
Project: Reclaimed Water Reuse
Location: QATALUM Labor Camp, Qatar
Services: treated Wastewater reclamation & Irrigation plan Preparation
A 10,000 person labor camp was built to serve the contractors staff working on the QATALUM construction site. The camp had a dedicated wastewater treatment plant with about 1.5 MGD capacity. The government environment agency had a zero discharge policy into the Gulf waters. As a result, the QATALUM management required innovative solution to the reclaimed water at their labor camp. The solution used comprised two main actions. These were:
• Using Water Saving Devices (WSDs) at all points of clean water discharge (such as faucets, showers, etc.). This reduced the water used by residents by about 50%.
• All reclaimed water was used for irrigation of camp grounds. The camp became a beautiful oasis in the desert.
• Minimum amounts of reclaimed water were discharged at government approved site in the desert when supply exceeded demand at the camp grounds.
